WHY VANUATU

Why Consider Vanuatu Citizenship?

Vanuatu’s Development Support Program is a citizenship route based on a financial contribution and government assessment. It may suit applicants exploring a second nationality, family options and international travel. Eligibility and approval depend on the current program rules and your circumstances.

Illustrative island coastline
01

Indicative processing time

Program providers quote around 45–90 days for government processing. This is an estimate, not a promised completion date; document preparation and passport issuance may add time.

02

No ongoing residency requirement

The DSP does not require you to relocate to Vanuatu. The referenced program provider reports no interview or language test. Confirm current oath and passport requirements, including any in-person biometric appointment, before proceeding.

03

Tax considerations

Vanuatu has no personal income tax or capital gains tax. Acquiring citizenship does not automatically change your tax residence or remove tax obligations in another country. Obtain individual tax advice.

04

87 travel destinations

The available Henley ranking lists an access score of approximately 87 for Vanuatu. This combines visa-free access, visa on arrival and certain electronic travel authorisations; it is not 87 unrestricted-entry countries. Henley Passport Index ↗

05

Published program pricing

The official schedule lists USD 130,000 for a single applicant and family rates up to USD 180,000 for a couple with two children. Additional fees apply; obtain an itemised quote.

Government assessment

Vanuatu authorities review the application and due diligence findings. Processing can take longer, and the decision rests solely with the authorities.

Payment milestones

The published fee schedule describes citizenship-fee payment after approval. Obtain a written breakdown of any deposits, due diligence, professional fees and remaining contribution before proceeding.

06

Check Your Home Country’s Dual Citizenship Rules

Vanuatu permits dual citizenship. Your existing nationality is governed by your home country’s rules, which may restrict dual citizenship or impose consequences when another nationality is acquired. Obtain advice for your nationality and circumstances before applying.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers to the questions that matter.

Does a Vanuatu passport give visa-free access to the EU or the UK?

No. The EU ended visa-free access on 12 December 2024 and the UK revoked it on 19 July 2023. If an agency promises you Schengen or Britain on this passport, that is not true.

Where can I actually travel without a visa?

Around 87 destinations, and that figure combines visa-free entry, visa on arrival and certain electronic travel authorisations — it is not 87 countries with unrestricted entry. Singapore, Hong Kong, Russia, the Caribbean and the Pacific are among them. Entry rules change, so check your destination before you book.

What is the total cost?

The published amount starts at USD 130,000 for a single applicant, with a separate USD 5,000 due diligence fee. Family amounts are USD 150,000, 165,000 and 180,000 for the compositions shown above. These are not a total quote: ask for professional, passport, biometric and document costs, and for written payment and refund terms.

How long does it take, and when do I pay?

The 45–90 day estimate for government processing comes from a programme provider, not from a government guarantee. Document preparation, additional checks and passport formalities can take longer. The official schedule describes the citizenship fee being paid after approval; other fees and deposits may fall earlier. You get a written payment schedule before you commit to anything.

Do I need to travel to Vanuatu, sit an exam or speak a language?

The process can generally be completed remotely, with the Oath of Allegiance taken by video call in most cases. There is no exam, no language requirement and no residency requirement. Your advisor will confirm whether an in-person biometric appointment applies to your case.

Who can I include in the application?

Your spouse, children under 18, dependent children aged 18–25 who meet the programme's study and dependency conditions, and dependent parents over 50. Family amounts are USD 150,000 for a couple, 165,000 with one child and 180,000 with two.

How long is the passport valid, and how is it renewed?

Vanuatu passports have been issued with ten-year validity since 2019, up from five. Renewal terms and cost depend on the rules in force when you renew, so confirm them with your advisor in advance rather than assuming.

Can I keep my current citizenship?

Vanuatu permits dual citizenship. Whether you keep your current one depends on your own country's law — several countries, including India and China, do not permit dual citizenship at all, and acquiring another nationality can mean losing yours. Check this for your nationality before you apply, not after.

Does this change my tax residency?

Not by itself. Vanuatu has no personal income tax and no capital gains tax, but acquiring citizenship does not move your tax residency automatically and does not end obligations where you live now. Get individual tax advice.

What could cause a rejection, and do I get the money back?

False or incomplete information, undisclosed convictions or proceedings, questions about the source of funds, nationality restrictions or a failed due diligence check can all affect the outcome, and only the Vanuatu authorities decide. Do not assume the due diligence fee or professional fees are returned if an application fails — the provider must list every non-refundable payment in your engagement terms. The programme contribution is a donation, not a recoverable investment.

Who are you, and what happens to my details?

We are an independent introduction service, not a law firm and not a government authority. Citizenship and passports are issued only by the responsible Vanuatu authorities. We use the details you send to reply and arrange an advisor introduction, as described in the Privacy Policy.
